Cyprus preparing for 2009 Small States of Europe Games

Preparations are underway for the 2009 Small States of Europe Games, which will be held in Cyprus.

The Cyprus Olympic Committee (COC) has announced that the organising committee of the 2009 Games has been in contact with the federations to participate in the Games, in order secure the successful hosting of the event.

”The aim is to organise the best games ever in their history. That is why the federations will soon have to complete their planning regarding needs for infrastructure and athletic material,” the COC says.

Officials of the organising committee will inspect the venues and, in cooperation with the federations and sports directors, will decide what will be included in the budget.

Regarding the athletes, the press release says that incentives will be given to the Cypriot athletes, who will be undergoing specialised preparation programmes in all disciplines, so that Cyprus has a chance to maintain its lead in the medal scoreboard.
