The cost of rebuilding a Greek village, destroyed by the recent fires, is estimated to reach 14 million euro, a Cyprus ministerial committee has said.

The committee was set up to deal with all the practical issues deriving from a government decision to undertake the cost of rebuilding the Greek village of Artemida, struck by the devastating fires that hit Greece this year.

The committee was briefed yesterday by a five-member delegation of Cypriot technocrats, who have returned from Artemida where they evaluated the extensive damage suffered during the recent fires.

The committee decided to offer 300,000 euro to finance anti-flood projects, that have already begun to protect the village from heavy rain.

The committee comprises the Ministers of Interior, Finance, Justice and Public Order, Communications and Works, and Agriculture, Natural Resources and the Environment.

Minister of the Interior Christos Patsalides said that the committee also decided to send to Artemida a team of town planners, an architect and a civil engineer to begin work aiming at preventing remaining buildings from collapsing.
