EC and Cyprus MEP do not know travel CO2 emissions

The European Commission has said it does not keep track of carbon emissions (CO2) and other greenhouse gases emitted by its Commissioners and their staff when traveling on official business, in response to a question by Cyprus EuroMP Kyriacos Triantaphyllides.

The Cypriot left-wing EuroMP cited the example of former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, who according to an article in the UK, calculated that the journeys undertaken by Blair during his last month in office would amount to 34,300 miles, involving the emission of 1,200 tonnes of carbon dioxide, equivalent to the absorption capacity of 900 trees.

“It would take 7200 trees to counter the damage,” noted Triantaphyllides who added that it might not be a bad idea for the EU to do the same for Brussels bureaucrats, particularly since the Commission was pushing strict guidelines for European citizens.
The Cypriot MEP however failed to calculate his own emissions, both on official business and for his personal travel, considering that once a week he flies back first class to Cyprus to spend the weekend here.
