Cyprus will symbolically take over the reconstruction and equipment of all residences destroyed by the blazes that have been raging across Greece for the past few days, in one of the affected communities, and the restoration of its resident’s incomes resources, Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos said adding that the community to which Cyprus will offer its help will be indicated by the Government of Greece.
Papadopoulos called on all individuals and organized groups who have the intention to organize fund-raising charities “to contribute whatever they can with generosity and love and solidarity with the tried people of Greece to bank accounts to be opened in all banks of Cyprus, and will operate under the supervision of the Government.”
He underlined that “Cyprus Hellenism shares the anguish and pain of the distressed people and expresses in practice its solidarity and support for the tried fraternal Greek people.”
Papadopoulos said that “in coordination with the President of the Hellenic Republic and the Prime Minister of Greece, the Cyprus Government responded from the first moment with all and every means at its disposal which it can provide to help Greece.”
“Our statement pledge towards the Greek Government is that Cyprus will provide everything Greece asks for and Cyprus can offer. For this reason we participate with volunteers and skilled firemen, over 100 up to now, with fire engines and anti-fire equipment which Cyprus has at its disposal Papadopoulos noted.
He expressed Cyprus’ anguish and sincere grief for the victims and their families and assured the Greek people that Cyprus Hellenism is by its side, sharing its anguish and bereavement.
“Our thought is with them,” Papadopoulos concluded.
