”As President of the European People’s Party, the largest political group in the European Parliament, it is an honour for me to say to you that EPP strongly supports the candidacy of Dr. Kasoulides, a close friend and member of our parliamentary group in the European Parliament,” Martens said.
He added that Kasoulides is known in Europe for his efficiency in promoting Cyprus’ candidacy in the past, as well as his active role in the the European integration.
”We strongly believe that, if elected, Cyprus under his presidency will be able to win again in Europe, as it has won the battle to enter the EU,” Martens pointed out.
Martens added that ”we are all looking forward to a credible partner, who will fully deserve the solidarity of the rest of its partners.”
He expressed certainty that ”it is in the interest of your country, of Cyprus, to have a candidate and a future President with a profile, a positive profile, among the European leaders and among the European public opinion.”
