Cyprus shipping exec elected to ICS, ISF boards

Captain Dirk Fry, chief executive of Columbia Shipmanagement Co. and president of the Cyprus Shipping Council, has been elected to the boards of both the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) and the International Shipping Federation (ISF).

His election took place at the joint annual general meeting of the two international bodies in Hong Kong on June 7-8 where the CSC was represented by Capt. Fry, former president Andreas Droussiotis and Secretary General Thomas Kazakos.

The membership of ICS and ISF comprises national ship owners’ and ship managers’ associations representing all maritime sectors and trades from 40 countries.

The Hong Kong meeting discussed topics such as ICS and ISF strategy review, environmental developments, liability issues, manpower issues, international aspects of EU maritime policy review and raising the profile of the shipping industry.

Established in 1989, the Cyprus Shipping Council is the trade association incorporating most of the shipowning, shipmanagement and shipping related companies based in Cyprus or carrying the Cyprus flag. Its members own and/or manage from Cyprus, 2010 vessels exceeding 40 mln gross tons.
