Motor registrations up 37.4% in May

The boom in motor vehicle registrations continued unabated in May, with registrations up 37.4% year on year to 6,374 units, of which 4,538 were passenger cars.

For the period January-May, total registrations rose by 33.4% to 27,874.

In this period the number of saloon car registrations rose by 36.4% to 22,345; the number of light goods vehicles rose by 40.0% to 2,431 and the number of heavy goods vehicles by 14.2% to 650.

Car registrations soared after a range of cuts on excise duties.

There has also been a fast increase in motor cycles: up 29.3% to 1,131 in January-May.
