Redback Networks launches new router for HDTV, VoD, Broadband

Redback Networks, an Ericsson company that makes video-centric routers for 75% of the world’s triple-play networks, announced its new SmartEdge 1200 multiservice edge router.

The SmartEdge 1200 is the first million subscriber rack for triple-play services such as HDTV, HD VoD and broadband mobility.  The SmartEdge router platform also is the centerpiece of Ericsson efforts to deliver full service broadband, enabling a world where any network can deliver any service to any device.

An Ericsson company since January, Redback Networks helps manage triple-play services for 50 mln subscribers and 15 of the top 20 telephone carriers worldwide. 

Redback’s multi-service routing platform delivers next generation broadband services such as VoIP, IPTV, On-Demand Video, and on-line gaming.  Redback Networks has more than 500 carrier customers worldwide and is based in San Jose, CA.
