Cyprus ace Baghdatis knocked out of Roland Garros

Cyprus tennis player Marcos Baghdatis lost his fourth round match at the French Open at Roland Garros in Paris on Monday to Russian player Igor Andreev and was subsequently knocked out of the tournament.

Baghdatis, 19th in the world men’s ATP rankings, lost 6-2, 1-6, 3-6, 4-6.

He had qualified to the fourth round after beating the Czech Republic‘s Jan Hajek in two sets with 6-2, when Hajek retired due to injury.

Baghdatis made it to the Australian Open final and the semi-final of Wimbledon and has become Cyprus’ leading ambassador in the field of international sports.
