CyAD forum deals with “Innovating Leadership in the Boardroom”

The first Cyprus Association of Directors (CyAD) Directors Forum was held last week at the Cyprus Hilton Hotel, where it was concluded that with accession to the Eurozone, political and business leaders must look ahead to the new challenges that businesses will need to address as regards internal governance and to meet the criteria set to financial institutions concerning risk management.

It is also the opportune time for businesses to re-configure their enterprises to survive in the contemporary, globalised business environment.

Acting as ‘Agents of Change’ the Cyprus Association of Directors organised the forum chaired by Dr Attalides, Rector of Intercollege.

Dinos Kittis, the chairman of the board of CyAD started the proceedings with an opening speech, followed by a welcome note by Spyris Karydas on behalf of the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism

The other speakers included Constantinos Tsolakis, Head of Bank Supervision and Regulation Department of the Central Bank on ‘Corporate Governance in Financial Institutions’, Liana Ioannidou, SEC on ‘Impact of New Regulations in Financial Markets’, Petros Ioannides, Hellenic Bank, on ‘The Impact of Basle II on Borrowers’, Theocharis Theocharous, also from Hellenic Bank, who spoke on ‘The Single European Payment’, Maria Kyriakou, lawyer and member of parliament for DISY on ‘Company Law News’, Yiangos Charalambous, Vice chairman of the Greek Capital Markets on ‘Corporate Governance’, Demetris Vakis, KPMG, on ‘Business Ethics’, Prof Stavros Zenios, Rector of the University of Cyprus on ‘Innovation in a knowledge-based economy – it does matter!’, Leopoldo Frati, IBM Italia SpA on ‘Innovating in a Flat world’, Marina Theodotou, Managing Director of Oasis Business Consulting on ‘Leadership Competencies in a Globalised Economy’, Nicos Timotheou, CEO of CyTA, on ‘Leading the Board: The Chairman – CEO relationship’, Prof Vassilis Rapanos, University of Athens, on ‘Globalisations and Entrepreneurship’ and Takis Fekos, Managing Director of JCC who spoke on ‘Globalisation and its effects on the financial sector’.

Finance Minister Michalis Sarris also gave a speech on “Expectations and Impact on the Cyprus Capital Market in the Eurozone”, that was followed by a presentation of the Life Award of Excellence for his contribution to the Cyprus Capital Markets to Nicolas K Shacolas.
