President Tassos Papadopoulos said on Tuesday that he enjoys mutual appreciation and close friendship with President of the House of Representatives and General Secretary of AKEL Demetris Christofias, with whom he has much to say on various issues, not only the forthcoming presidential elections.
Asked about the agenda of his meeting on Wednesday with Christofias, President Papadopoulos said ”we do not have an agenda.”
”Christofias and I have cooperated for many years. We share a mutual appreciation, a very close friendship and we have many and various things to talk about. Not only the elections,” he added.
Government Spokesman Vassilis Palmas, who announced Wednesday’s meeting, said President Papadopoulos and Christofias would be discussing various issues, in the framework of the meetings political party leaders have with the President.
Palmas said ”it will be a substantive discussion” and that ”every meeting between the President of the Republic and the House President is always important.” Asked if the meeting had anything to do with the February 2008 presidential elections, Palmas said ”we still have a long way to go till then.” Palmas furthermore said he did not know when President Papadopoulos would be announcing his final decision on whether or not he would be running for re-election.
