Cyprus Government Spokesman Vassilis Palmas said on Tuesday that the Cypriot government did not have any information on scenarios for the promotion of the so-called special status partnership between the EU and Turkey in exchange for the adoption of a regulation for trade with the areas of Cyprus over which the government does not exercise effective control.

Commenting on press reports, Palmas said ”we have neither such information nor any such indications.”

He added it was a fact that Nicolas Sarkozy (French President) had made some statements regarding a special partnership with Turkey.

”Our position, as the Republic of Cyprus, is clear regarding Turkey’s European course,” Palmas said, noting that ”the Republic of Cyprus has given the green light for the opening of Turkey’s accession negotiations on condition that Turkey respects all that which is provided for by the EU, in order to follow the course it should.”
