Cyprus records fourth lowest inflation rate in EU in April

Cyprus had the fourth best inflation rate in the EU in April, according to figures r by Eurostat. The annual harmonised inflation rate in Cyprus was 1.6% in April, compared to 1.4% in March, while the average in the Eurozone was 1.9% and in the EU as a whole 2.2%.
The lowest rates were recorded in Malta with -1.1%, France 1.3%, Finland 1.5% and Cyprus and Sweden with 1.6%. The worst were in Latvia with 8.8%, Hungary 8.7% and Estonia 5.6%.
Inflation in the Eurozone was for the eighth consecutive month under the theoretical ceiling of 2%, set by the European Central Bank.
The main components with the highest annual rates in April 2007 were education (9.2%), alcohol and tobacco (3.7%), and hotels and restaurants (3.1%), while the lowest annual rates were observed for communications (-2.2%), recreation and culture (0.0%), clothing, household equipment and transport (1.4% each).
The inflation rates recorded in each member state in April 2007 compared to April 2006 were: Malta -1.1%, France 1.3%, Finland 1.5%, Cyprus 1.6%, Sweden 1.6%, Denmark 1.7%, Austria 1.7%, Belgium 1.8%, Italy 1.8%, The Netherlands 1.9%, Germany 2.0%, Slovakia 2.0%, Poland 2.2%, Luxembourg 2.5%, Spain 2.5%, Greece 2.6%, the Czech Republic 2.7%, Portugal 2.8%, the United Kingdom 2.8%, Slovenia 2.9%, Ireland 2.9%, Romania 3.8%, Bulgaria 4.4%, Lithuania 4.9%, Estonia 5.6%, Latvia 8.7%, Hungary 8.8%.
