Cyprus retail sales still strong into the new year

Retail sales remained strong into the new year according to provisional figures for January released by the Statistical Service CYSTAT.

Retail sales volumes rose by 5% in January, compared with the same month of 2006, while in value terms they rose by 8% in the same period.

Pharmaceutical sales continue to boom, up by 26.8% in January, while the second fastest rise was in furniture and household goods, up 11.5%.

CYSTAT also issued final figures for the whole of 2006, showing an increase of 6.2% in volume and 8.6% in value.
