Pork prices fall in 2006, tomatoes up 79% Q/Q

According to figures from the Statistical Service, the producer price index of pork decreased by 7.7% in 2006, dropping to143 from 155 in 2005.

In December 2006 the producer price index of chicken meat increased by 7.4% compared to January 2006.

The producer price index of cow’s milk recorded a slight decrease in the second and third quarter of the year, whilst in the fourth quarter it reverted to the levels of the first quarter of 2006.

The average monthly producer price index of fresh vegetables in 2006 was 125 units compared to 116 units in 2005, thus recording and increase of 7.8%.

The producer price index of tomatoes recorded an increase of 79% in the last quarter of 2006 compared to the third quarter of the same year.

The producer price index of cucumbers in 2006 dropped to 138 compared to 140 in 2005, recording a small decrease of 1.4%.

The producer price index for fruits decreased by 8.4% in December 2006, dropping to 131 compared to 143 in November 2006.
