Registered unemployment falls in February

The number of unemployed people registered at the District Labour Offices on the last day of February 2007 reached 14,816, compared with 15,041 persons in January 2007, marking a decrease of 225 persons.

The Statistical Service reported that the decrease was mainly recorded in the sectors of public administration and trade.

Unemployment also fell on the year-earlier period, with the number of unemployed 478 lower than in February 2006.

This was attributed to a decrease in unemployment in the sectors of manufacturing, trade and construction.

For the whole of 2006, registered unemployment fell by 329 people to 12,824 from 13,153.
