Patients transferred to new Nicosia hospital

The process of tranferring patients from the old Nicosia General Hospital, in the city centre, to the new hospital building, on the soutern suburbs of the capital, began here today.

The new Nicosia General Hospital started operating officially on Sunday and the transfer of staff and equipment from the old premises to the new ones will be completed on Wednesday 18 October.

The Casualty ward will start operating at the new premises on Tuesday, October 10.

The new hospital takes up 63.000 square metres, it will employ 1.800 personnel (medics and paramedics and auxiliary staff) and 22 clinics will operate offering specialized medical care.

The entire project is estimated to have cost some CYP 11 million.

During the first two weeks civil defence officers will be on site to direct patients to the right place, while details about how to move around the place will be published in the local media.

Public transport to and from the hospital will be available at regular intervals from the city centre.
