Irish President to visit Cyprus

Irish President Mary McAleese arrives in Cyprus on October 9 for a two-day official visit, at the invitation of Cypriot President Tassos Papadopoulos, Government Spokesman Christodoulos Pashiardis announced here Wednesday.

Mcaleese, accompanied by her husband, Irish Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, as well as 14-member delegation, will have a series of contacts with the Cypriot President and government officials.

According to Pashiardis, during her meeting with the President, McAleese will discuss, apart from the Cyprus problem, bilateral issues, the latest developments in the Middle East, the recent crisis in Lebanon and other issues of mutual concern.

The Irish President will also meet with House of Representatives President Demetris Christofias, and will address a gathering organised by the University of Cyprus on ‘The new horizons of the EU – The Irish Perspective.’
