The Cyprus Committee on Missing Persons is investigating a well in the Paralimni area to see if it contains the bodies of an unknown number Turkish Cypriots killed during intercommunal fighting in 1963-64.

Six Greek Cypriot and six Turkish Cypriot archaeologists and anthropologists are working on the project.

The CMP said that emergency excavation work is being carried out in the Paralimni area because of impeding construction work, which is due to begin in the area.

An emergency exhumation was previously carried out in the Mesaoria area.
