Unemployment rises year on year to 3.9%

The number of registered unemployed rose by 1,220 in March 2006 compared with the same month of 2005 to reach 13,730 or 3.9% of the labour force.

According to the Statistical Service Cystat the increase was mainly observed in the sectors of construction, manufacturing, trade, hotels and restaurants as well as to newcomers in the labour market.

Compared with the previous month, the number of unemployed fell, by 1,564 compared with February 2006.

CYSTAT reported that decrease compared with the previous month was mainly recorded in the sectors of hotels and restaurants and public administration.
