Greece’s Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyiannis arrives in Cyprus today for a three-day official visit to Cyprus, the first visit on the island since her appointment.

Bakoyiannis will meet her Cypriot counterpart George Iacovou, Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos, House President and leader of the coalition AKEL party Demetris Christofias and other Greek Cypriot political leaders.

Speaking on Monday ahead of her arrival on the island, Bakoyiannis said the aim of her visit to Cyprus is for “this cooperation to intensify even further ahead of the various developments that exist with the new momentum on Cyprus”.

Bakoyiannis is not scheduled to meet any Turkish Cypriots during her visit.

When Britain’s foreign minister Jack Straw visited the island in January, President Papadopoulos refused to meet him because he followed previous protocol and visited the Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat at his offices as president of the unrecognised TRNC.
