Greek Cypriots are waiting for a move by the UN before any move can be taken to solve the Cyprus problem, Cypriot President Tassos Papadopoulos indicated on Wednesday, when CNA reported that he said everyone should wait for UN actions to give impetus to the new process agreed on in Paris between himself and UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, “adding that the Turkish Cypriot side had to concede as well”, said CNA.

Papadopoulos said that the discussions on technical issues referred to in the joint statement issued by Annan and Papadopoulos“are not technical committees but committees on matters of a technical nature.”

On the issue of missing persons, President Papadopoulos said “on this humanitarian issue both sides understand that it is clearly a matter that should be kept away from political aims.”

He added that the priority was to appoint the third member of the Committee on Missing Persons.
