A new newspaper has just hit the stands in Britain that caters to the Cypriot and Greek communities and also provide a platform to promote investments in Cyprus and Greece.

London Greek News will be published fortnightly and will deal with all matters of interest to the Greek and Cypriot community, namely politics, business, travel, property, sport and religion.

“We printed 5,000 for our debut edition and distributed them mostly within the Greater London areas,” said LGN’s Editor-in-Chief John Kaponi.

“We hope to double our circulation within the next six months as we believe that those interested in developments within our communities, as well as Cyprus and Greece, read the newspaper in order to be better informed,” Kaponi said.

He added the newspaper is distributed free at selected outlets and sold for 50p at major newsagents in the ethnic and non-ethnic areas.

The lead story of the debut edition that appeared last Wednesday was Thomson’s decision to remove travel brochures promoting the occupied north of Cyprus, and George Michael being arrested for the possession of illegal substances.

Other stories include Britain’s hunt for the Turkish mafia boss who is responsible for the distribution of 90% of heroin sales in the UK and Stelios Haji-Ioannou’s latest fad — easyPizza.

The newspaper also includes a four-page special section on business and economy news from Cyprus compiled specially by the Financial Mirror that will aim to promote Cypriot investment opportunities and corporate news through this new medium in the UK.
