Cyprus will be represented in the 51st Eurovision song contest in May in Athens by Annette Artani, with the song “Why Angels Cry”.

The song was voted as the best song among ten songs performed before an audience in CYBC studios in Nicosia.

The contest was by televoting from all the main districts of the island as well as votes from all around the country.

Petros Yiannaki is the composer and the lyricist of the winning song.

The Eurovision contest in Cyprus has, like much else, a political dimension, with Cyprus and Greece normally giving each other the maximum 12 points and Turkey giving and getting zero, although this tradition has been broken in recent years.
