Government Spokesman George Lillikas said here Monday that the government will make representations over a documentary by Euronews TV channel, which referred to the illegal regime and to a profit making estate agent selling Greek Cypriot properties in the Turkish occupied north of Cyprus.

The Spokesman said the report was tendentious and there was no truth whatsoever in the terminology used by international organizations or the historical facts.

“There will be representations on the part of the government and Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation”, said Lillikas.

“Of course we support freedom of expression of the Press, but at the same time we have to insist that the expression and reference to certain facts should correspond to the truth and not distort real history. The specific report, I must say, and it was my feeling, was tendentious. The whole reference did not correspond whatsoever to the terminology used by the international organizations, nor to the historical facts as they are outlined in UN resolutions, nor it respected human rights such as the right to ownership”, he added.

Cyprus has been divided since 1974 when Turkish troops invaded and occupied the island’s northern third. (CNA)
