Cyprus Communications and Works Minister Haris Thrasou and Finance Minister Michalis Sarris are in Brussels to discuss the Cyprus Airways (CY) restructuring plan, aiming to save the company. Discussions will take place with the European Commission General Director of Communications.

Speaking on departure Thrasou called on CY pilots and company employees in general to cooperate with the government «so as to be able to convince the European Commission and proceed with the implementation of the restructuring plan.»

Asked to comment on reports of an imminent strike, the Minister noted that the unions’ decisions to accept the restructuring plan have strengthened the position of the government, noting that any acts towards the opposite direction would harm this position as the issue will be discussed in Brussels.

The Finance Minister said that undoubtedly the EU would want to be informed about the collective effort required for a successful outcome and the survival of Cyprus Airways.

«Any effort that threatens the determination of all sides, management and government for the successful implementation of the plan, will have negative consequences on our effort to persuade that what we have is a plan that will succeed», he said.
