Cypriot hostage in Iraq released

Cypriot national Garabet Jikergian, who was held captive in Baghdad for five months, was released on Saturday night, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced here Monday.

Expressing satisfaction over Jikergian’s release, who also has Lebanese nationality, the ministry said it was informed yesterday by his family about his release.

Jikergian is expected to return home in the next few days.

The Foreign Ministry “expresses its satisfaction over the happy ending of the five month captivity of the Cypriot national as well as appreciation to all those who have helped and especially the government of Lebanon”.
