A 16-year-old Malaysian boy committed suicide by wrapping exposed electrical wires around his wrist, a newspaper reported Thursday.

The boy’s parents, who live in suburban Kuala Lumpur, found his body early Wednesday after hearing a piercing scream coming from his room, followed by the electricity shutting off in the house, The Sun said.

His father, who declined to be named, said that night he had lectured his computer-loving son about cutting the time he spent every day playing videogames but was baffled by his suicide.

“I do not know why he took his own life,” the distraught father said Wednesday. “He was our only child, and we let him indulge in his passion. I even had someone coming to upgrade his computer this evening.”

His body was found sprawled in his room with a note bequeathing his computer and accessories to two friends. (dpa)
