Christou most popular in Cyprus Cabinet

Interior Minister Andreas Christou is the most popular member of the Papadopoulos Administration, according to a monthly poll for October conducted by CMR Cypronetwork.

The survey was conducted during the first half of October among 1000 adults aged 16 and older.

Although no comparative data ws supplied for previous surveys, the survey concluded that “all the ministers got a rather positive to average assessment.”

Christou, an AKEL-appointed member of the Cabinet who is highly regarded as a competent officer by all political parties, led the table with a score of 6.4 points.

He was far ahead of the rest of the pack that was led by Commerce and Industry Minister George Lillykas (5.7), followed by Doros Theodorou (Justice), George Iacovou (Foreign), Koullis Mavronikolas (Defence), Pefkios Georgiades (Education) and Government Spokesman Kypros Chrysostomides, all with an average score of 5.6.

At the bottom of the league were the Ministers with troubled portfolios, due mainly to social or other crises related to their ministries.

Chief among them were Timis Efthymiou (Agriculture – 5.5), Andreas Gavrielides (Health – 5.4) and Haris Thrassou (Transport – 5.1).

Labour and Social Insurance Minister Christos Taliadoros who maintains a low profile was at the end of the list, sharing the place with newcomer Finance Minister Michalis Sarris at 4.8 points.
