Cypriot EU Commissioner responsible for Health and Consumer Protection Marcos Kyprianou has said the EU has ‘the most strict legislation and the higher security level in the world as regards food issues.’

He noted that each EU member state must enhance its competent authorities and supervisors in order to have as many controls as possible.

In statements during the annual meeting in Larnaca of the Advisory Body of the Food Security Authority, Kyprianou said ‘the fact that more products not appropriate for consumption are spotted means that the system is working better now.’

He said that consumers must feel safer as these cases are now detected.
