eBay takes down auction for kidney

Internet auction site eBay has cancelled an auction for a human kidney after it attracted bids of some 800,000 dollars in just a single day.

The kidney was being sold by a 54 year old U.S. citizen from Missoula in Montana who wanted to use the proceeds from the sale to support his family.

The Internet site does not permit the sale of human organs and the sale was deleted as soon as it came to the notice of eBay management, the company said.

Another eBay seller tried to sell a kidney in 1999. That sale brought in bids of more than 5.7 mln dollars before the company intervened to block the auction. (dpa)
