The Attorney General of Cyprus, Petros Clerides has asked the police to investigate and collect statements to establish whether or not the CyTA board and its management committed a criminal offence when they refused to abide by a temporary ruling of the Competition Commission, ordering them to hike mobile call rates.

The head of the Competition Commission, George Christofides said in a statement quoting a letter he has received from the Attorney General that the case has been submitted to the Chief of Police to order an investigation against CyTA.

In his 5-page letter dated September 8, Clerides is reported to be of the belief that the Board and Management of CyTA violated article 137 of the criminal penal code when they decided to ignore a temporary order issued by the Competition Committee, ordering them to hike prices.
