DIKO, the coalition party of Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos, boycotted its second meeting with Turkish Cypriot parties on Wednesday, after refusing to attend a meeting in a room where the Turkish and Turkish Cypriot flags were on display.

The meeting was due to be held with the Republican Turkish Party (CTP), which heads the administration in northern Cyprus.

Last week DIKO crossed the Green Line for the first time to meet members of Serdar Denktash’s Democrat Party (DP).

DIKO acting president Nikos Cleanthous said that DIKO had asked that “the symbols of the Turkish occupation regime be removed from the venue of our meeting”. Opposition DISY met CTP on Tuesday.
