Agreement on health issues

A co-operation protocol between Cyprus and India was signed on Tuesday April 12, with the aim of strengthening cooperation in the field of the economy, commerce, industry, tourism, transport and health.

The protocol was signed on behalf of Cyprus by Director General of the Planning Bureau Andreas Moleskis and on behalf of India, Additional Secretary of the Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce Abhijit Sengupta who led an Indian delegation that visited Cyprus.|

Meanwhile, at the fifth meeting of the Cyprus-Indian intergovernmental Committee for Economic, Science, Technical and Industrial Cooperation on the same day Cyprus and India exchanged today the instruments of ratification of an agreement in the field of health and medical science. This formally marks the start of its implementation.

Health Minister Andreas Gavrielides and India’s High Commissioner in Nicosia Neelam Dr. Sabharwal underlined their strong interest in reinforcing in every way possible their cooperation in the various fields of health, with special emphasis on promoting research and technology in the medical science sector and developing relevant software.

The agreement was signed in 2002 and ratified recently by the two sides and includes an exchange of statistics and information on epidemics, AIDS, hepatitis, cancer, knowledge and training of nursing staff, the exchange of visits by experts and specialists and the developing of common scientific programmes.
