The government of Cyprus has said that it does not rule out a meeting between Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos and Republican Turkish Party (CTP) leader Mehmet Ali Talat on bicommunal issues under the auspices of the UN and the Secretary-General’s mission of good offices.

Government Spokesman Kypros Chrysostomides said President Papadopoulos was informed by President of the House of Representatives and AKEL General Secretary Demetris Christofias on his meeting on Tuesday with Talat in the Turkish-occupied part of Nicosia.

Chrysostomides said the government believes that contacts between political parties are a positive step and will contribute in the right direction.
