The Civil Aviation Department is investigating an incident at Larnaca airport when an inbound Cyprus Airways aircraft was about to land while a small private jet was still moving on the main runway, forcing the pilot of the commercial jetliner to deploy an emergency manouvre that frightened most of the passengers.

The smaller aircraft, also inbound, had delayed getting off the runway towards the parking tarmac, with reports suggesting that CAIR flight CY 305 from Athens had passed the shoreline and was ready to touch down.

Civil Aviation will investigate the responsibilities of the ground staff and those in the control tower, that has been moved a kilometer further west from the present terminal near the site of the new terminal building being constructed by the airport’s new operator, Hermes Airports.

The CAIR pilot will also report to the airline’s security officer as he followed procedure under such circumstances.
