CYPRUS: Tourism revenue up in May

Revenue from tourism saw a significant increase in May this year and the first five months, the statistical service Cystat reported.


 
On the basis of the results of the Passenger Survey, revenue from tourism reached EUR 291.5 mln in May 2017 compared to EUR 244.7 mln in the corresponding month of the previous year, recording an increase of 19.1%.
For the period of January – May period revenue from tourism is estimated at EUR 649.2 mln compared to EUR 530.2 mln in the corresponding period of 2016, recording an increase of 22.4%.
The expenditure per person for May reached EUR 696.08 compared to EUR 670.64 in the same month last year, an increase of 3.8%. The expenditure per person/per day for May 2017 compared to May 2016 increased 6.1%.
In May, a decrease of 12.2% was recorded for expenditure per person by tourists from the United Kingdom (from EUR 815.68 in May 2016 to EUR 716.04 in May 2017), a 20.1% increase from Russia (from EUR 577.02 to EUR 692.76 this year) and 0.7% increase from Germany (from EUR 770.16 to EUR 775.23 this year).
The expenditure per person/per day for tourists from the United Kingdom decreased by 7.8% (from EUR 78.43 in May 2016 to EUR 72.33 in May 2017), for Russians it increased by 17.2% (from EUR 70.37 to EUR 82.47) and for Germans it decreased by 2.5% (from EUR 81.93 to EUR 79.92).
