CYPRUS: Trade deficit widens in Jan-May

The trade deficit was EUR 1,871.4 mln in January-May, compared to EUR 1,223 mln in the corresponding period of 2015, the Statistical Service announced on Tuesday.


 
It said that total imports/arrivals in January-May amounted to EUR 2,531.2 mln compared to EUR 2,082.7 mln in January-May 2015. Total exports/dispatches were EUR 659.8 mln compared to EUR 859.8 mln in January-May 2015.
In May, total imports/arrivals were valued at EUR 1,018.8 mln. These include the transfer of economic ownership of mobile transport equipment (vessels), with total value of EUR 563.4 mln.
Total exports/dispatches, including stores and provisions, in May amounted to EUR 136.1 mln. Εxports/dispatches of domestically produced goods, including stores and provisions, were EUR 78.9 mln, while exports/dispatches of foreign goods, including stores and provisions, were EUR 57.2 mln.
On the basis of preliminary estimates for foreign trade in June, total imports/arrivals were EUR 446.4 mln, of which EUR 328.8 mln were arrivals from other member states of EU and EUR 117.6 mln imports from third countries. Total exports/dispatches were EUR 128.2 mln of which EUR 64.3 mln were dispatches to other member states of EU and EUR 63.9 mln exports to third countries.
