Right-wing Democratic Rally (DISY) MP and Chairman of the House Commerce Committee Lefteris Christoforou, who will be the new Cypriot MEP, as of November 1st, when Christos Stylianides undertakes his position as the EU Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management, attended on Thursday for the last time a plenary session of the House of Representatives, which he has served since 1996.

Christoforou`s parliamentary seat will go to Evgenios Hamboullas, as runner-up Christoforos Fokaides was appointed Defence Minister earlier this year. DISY MP Zaharias Zahariou will be the new House Commerce Committee Chairman.

Speaking before the plenary, the President of the House Yiannakis Omirou said that during his term in office at the Parliament, Christoforou defended the interests of the people and had excellent relations with all the members of the House. He wished him good luck in his new duties.

On his part, Christoforou said he was deeply moved, noting at the same time that he feels proud of the struggles he gave over the years with other MPs at the House.

Christoforou, who is DISY`s deputy leader, takes Stylianides` seat at the European Parliament since he was the runner-up at the European elections held on May 25.
