Permanent Secretary of the French Foreign Ministry Christian Masset has stressed Cyprus inalienable right to exploit its natural reserves in its exclusive economic zone.

Masset met Tuesday with Cyprus FM Permanent Secretary Alexandros Zenon during which they discussed Turkey`s provocation in the island`s EEZ. According to a press release issued Tuesday by the FM in Nicosia, Masset expressed his country`s concern for the creation of tension and pointed out that trust must be restored so that the bicommunal talks can resume for the reunification of the island. He also said that his country has conveyed this message to Turkey as well.

During the meeting ways for further enhancement of bilateral relations were discussed as well as the developments in the region, focusing on Syria and Iraq.

Turkish seismic exploration vessel `Barbaros` entered Cyprus's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) on Monday.

The move comes a few days after Turkey issued a maritime order, or NAVTEX, for the area. This prompted Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades to suspend his participation in the UN backed negotiations which aim to reunify the island under a federal roof.

Cyprus Energy Minister stated earlier today, that Consortium ENI – KOGAS continues its drilling in block 9 of Cyprus` EEZ in accordance with timetables set.
