A painting by Edgar Degas and other valuables worth a total 6.2 mln euros were stolen from a house on the outskirts of Limassol, police said on Tuesday.

The painting, one of the “Dancer” series of the 19th century French impressionist painter (similar to the photo), is estimated to be worth about 6 mln euros, according to its provenance and auction prices, the owner said in a statement to the police.
However, the painting, as well as a safe that included a pair of collector’s theatre binoculars, six gold wristwatches and cufflinks, were not insured.
Police said the theft at the Apaisia country home of a 70 year old Cypriot from Limassol, took place on Monday afternoon.
The painting, measuring 46×61, dated 1870, is reportedly one of five of the same style popular with the artist who used young models as dancers and nudes.
