Nasos Ktorides, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of EuroAsia Interconnector, the international subsea cable project with a transmission capacity of 2000MW between Israel and Europe, is recovering after crashing his paraglider in Cyprus in early August.

Ktorides had suffered multiple fractures on August 5 when his paraglider got caught in unexpected crosswinds and fell about 150 feet into a ravine in the scenic Akamas area, a popular region for the recreational sport of flying.

After reaching to the Cyprus rescue services, he was airlifted to Paphos hospital and from there to a private hospital in Nicosia where he was treated for a total of 30 injuries, without any damage whatsoever to vital organs. The total operating time lasted 16 hours and his attending physicians said they plan to conduct a further 1-2 corrective interventions.

Doctors are confident he will be able to fully recover within the next 6-12 months, after which he will gradually return to training for his beloved sport of marathon running.

Ktorides, founder and ex Vice Chairman of Emporiki Bank in Cyprus, heads the ambitious multinational project that aims to transmit 2,000MW of electricity from Israel to western Europe, via Cyprus and Greece. The EuroAsia Interconnector is a joint venture that includes Balkan electricity power producer Quantum Energy with 1422MW capacity, the state-owned Israel Electric Corporation and the Public Power Corporation of Greece (PPC/DEH).

Through his dedication to community service, apart from an active sportsman and supporter of sport and health related events, such as the Nicosia Marathon, Nassos is the first UNICEF Ambassador and promotes issues related to child welfare throughout his activities at home and travels around the world. He also heads the Athanasios Ktorides Foundation, a non-profit trust that has contributed to needy students, sports and culture.
