An earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale was recorded very near Turkey’s popular holiday resort of Antalya at midnight Thursday and was felt as far away as Cyprus and the Greek island of Rhodes.

Earthquake monitoring sites said it was a “scary earthquake for tourists” followed by aftershocks during the nightly hours. Most of them were not expected to be felt because they were weak and out in the sea.
The Cyprus Geological Survey said that the epicentre of the tremor was at a depth of 80km and at a very close 60km south of the Turkish resort town or 260 km north west of Polis Chrysochous.
The monitoring site
www.earthquake-report.com said “because of the many tourists in the area who are not used to feel earthquakes, this must have been the experience of a lifetime for them.”
The quake was mildly felt along the western parts of Cyprus and only in tall buildings in the capital Nicosia.
