Cyprus Government Spokesman resigns to run for seat in the European Parliament

Cyprus Government Spokesman Christos Stylianides announced his resignation as he runs for a seat in the European Parliament with ruling Democratic Rally (DISY).

“It was a difficult decision to resign before the work of Nicos Anastasiades` administration is completed. However, my decision to seek election to the European Parliament is a natural progression and I have a strong conviction that the future of Cyprus is at stake both in Europe as well as in Cyprus,” he said, adding I believe that the future of Cyprus lies with the European family where the solutions will be found.

The President of the Republic in a written statement accepted Stylianides resignation. According to an official announcement that followed, President Anastasiades, decided that, at the present time, he will assign the exercise of the duties of Government Spokesman to the Director of his Diplomatic Office Nikos Christodoulide.

Christodoulides will concurrently continue to exercise the duties of Director of the Diplomatic Office of the President of the Republic
