The Cyprus Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment, Nicos Kouyialis, will pay a two-day visit to Israel on 25 and 26 August within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding between Cyprus, Greece and Israel, signed on 8 August, for cooperation in the sectors of energy and water resources.

The Memorandum is of immense political significance and will reinforce Cyprus’ geopolitical position, and thus, the immediate implementation of what has been agreed is deemed necessary, an official announcement said.

Kouyialis will have a meeting with the Israeli Minister of Energy and Water Resources, Silvan Shalom, during which there will be a discussion on issues pertaining to water development, management and protection.

Meetings are also scheduled to discuss further reinforcement of the collaboration and the exchange of experiences and knowledge, particularly relating to urban waste water treatment and the use of recycled water in agriculture.

Israel invests large sums for the development and technology of water resources and is one of the leading countries worldwide in the development of new water treatment technologies, such as desalination and the treatment and reuse of urban waste water.
