The decision on the company which will supply Cyprus with natural gas until the reserves in the Republic’s Exclusive Economic Zone can be exploited has been deferred by the Board of Directors of the Natural Gas Public Company (DEFA), Chairman Costas Ioannou told CNA on Wednesday after a Board meeting.

The evaluation reports of the technical and commercial proposals of the three competing companies / joint ventures (ITERA, VITOL and VOUROS) were not ready today, he explained.

The reports are being prepared by a DEFA team in cooperation with a Cyprus Electricity Authority team and independent experts.

Ioannou added that the evaluation reports are expected to be ready by next week.

The issue is “very complex”, he said and the amount of time initially given to the evaluation teams (three days) was not sufficient for them to complete their reports.

March 1 was the deadline for the submission of technical, commercial and financial proposals by the three companies/joint ventures that were qualified in the framework of the competition DEFA proclaimed for the short term supply of natural gas for delivery to power stations in Cyprus (interim solution).
