Cyprus’ trade deficit decreased by 205 million euro in Q1 2012

Cyprus’ trade deficit decreased by 205 million euro in the first quarter of 2012, reaching 1.42 billion euro, compared with a deficit of 1.63 billion euro in the corresponding quarter of 2011, according to preliminary estimates by the Statistical Service.

Total imports /arrivals in January – April, according to the figures released Tuesday by the Statistical Service, decreased l by 206.57 million euros to 1.88 billion compared with 2.09 billion euro in last year’s corresponding period.

Total exports / dispatches recorded ​​during the first quarter of the year a slight decrease, reaching 464.12 million euros compared with 645.46 million euro in the corresponding quarter of 2011.

Moreover, trade deficit dropped in April 2012 to 354.69 million euro, compared with a deficit of 401.31 million euro in April 2011, according to Statistical Service’s preliminary estimates.

In April 2012, total imports/ arrivals were 493,0 mn euro, of which 322,6 mn euro were arrivals from other EU member states and 170,4 mn euro imports from third countries.

Total exports/dispatches were 138,3 mn euro of which 71,5 mn euro were dispatches to other member states of E.U. and 66,8 mn euro exports to third countries.

In April 2011, total imports / arrivals had risen to 525.41 million euro, whilst exports / dispatches reached 124.10 million.
