Greece's technocrat Prime Minister Loucas Papademos arrived in Cyprus for a two-day official visit to discuss issues related to recent energy finds and exploitation, as well as regional security matters.
''Our aim'', Papademos said on his arrival, ''is to achieve a better coordination as regards the efforts to solve the Cyprus problem, as well as to address the consequences of the economic crisis and further, to strengthen our cooperation in the field of energy''.
He added that his visit is taking place at a very difficult and crucial time for both countries, emphasising on the assumption of the presidency of the EU Council by Cyprus in July.
The Greek premier was received in the afternoon by President Demetris Christofias at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia, followed by a tete – a – tete meeting. Papademos will also meet the leaders of the main Cypriot political parties DISY, AKEL, DIKO and EDEK and in the evening will attend an official banquet.
