Cyprus President to pay official visit to Russia

Cyprus President Demetris Christofias will pay an official two day visit to Russia, November 19-20.

An official press release, issued here today, said that during the first day of his visit Christofias will have a meeting with the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev and the Prime Minister Vladimir Poutin.

Talks between the two sides will focus on furthering the already excellent bilateral relations and boosting trade and financial cooperation.

The two leaders will discuss the Cyprus question and other issues of bilateral and international interest. After the end of the talks with President Medvedev, the two sides will sign a series of Agreements and Memoranda of Cooperation that will further consolidate relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

Afterwards, the President of the Russian Federation will host an official lunch in honour of the Cypriot President.

President Christofias will also have meetings with the Speaker of the Russian State Duma Boris Grizlov and the Chairman of the Council of Federation Sergey Mironov. Moscow Mayor Yury Luzhkov will host a dinner in Christofias’ honour.

A meeting is also expected to take place with the Georgy Muratov, President of the Cyprus-Russian Friendship Association.

The University of International Relations of Moscow will award President Christofias an Honorary Doctorate during an official ceremony.

Christofias will be accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism and other officials. He will return to Cyprus November 21.
