Cyprus President Christofias leaves for Strasbourg to address PACE

President of the Republic of Cyprus, Demetris Christofias, departed Monday for Strasbourg, where the next day he will address the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).

In statements before departing for France, President Christofias described the Council of Europe (CoE) as a very important regional organization, which defends human rights and added that Cyprus “is based and counts on CoE, as well as on the principles and values of the European Union''.

President Christofias said that during his stay there, he will have a series of meetings, among others, with PACE President Lluis Maria de Puig, Secretary General of CoE Terry Davis, and President of the European Court of Human Rights Jean – Paul Costa.

The Cypriot President said he would return to Cyprus 1st of October, to attend the celebrations on the occasion of Cyprus’ Independence Day.
